Hop on your bike and see Lancaster’s sights

School holiday activities at Salt Ayre
Take the kids to Salt Ayre Leisure Centre this summer and enjoy some family fun sessions and events which will not break the bank. Choose from the Creation Station, Crazy Inflatable Fun Pool Party, Energy Kids Party with Harvey Rush, Family Giant Inflatable Fun and a Superfunk Roller Disco.
All of these events are £7 and under per person and some events adults go FREE!

Learn about Lancaster’s past at Lancaster Castle
Have a historical trip and visit Lancaster Castle one of the UK’s most significant historic monuments. Its origins date back to Roman times and it has been a centre of justice, incarceration and penal reform for almost 1,000 years. So there’s much to see and learn.
A friendly tour guide will take you through tales of witchcraft, religious persecution, crime and punishment, rehabilitation and release throughout the ages. You may even get to stand in the dock, raise your left hand to be sworn in, and uncover the true meaning of being ‘sent down’. You can try out one of our medieval cells for size and marvel at one of Europe’s most extensive collections of heraldic shields.

Explore a tiny cottage with lots to learn
A tiny and intriguing 18th century cottage spread over 5 floors.
The Cottage Museum offers an intimate glimpse of early Victorian life and lets you discover gadgets and utensils used in the 19th century. You can even meet the Victorian housekeeper.

Wander around Williamson Park
Williamson Park is home to the iconic Ashton Memorial and 54 acres of beautiful parkland with enchanting woodland walks, play areas and breathtaking views to the Fylde Coast, Morecambe Bay and the Lake District fells and mountains. The perfect outdoor attraction for the whole family to make your visit extra exciting check out their attractions including the Butterfly House (formerly a tropical palm house), small animal zoo (home to our resident meerkats and marmosets) and a fully licensed cafe with free wifi.

Spot the trail of umbrellas around the city
On the run up to Lancaster BIDs Festa Italia event on 9th September you will find an umbrella canopy along New Street. This runs in conjunction with an umbrella trail that will guide you and your little ones around the city centre, follow the trail to discover the city and the unique range of businesses available. All business involved will be offering a ‘Trail Treat’ and each store that included will display a sticker in the window so you can go and claim your treat in each location.

Learn about Vikings at Lancaster Martime Museums Viking workshops
Head down to the historic quayside for family friendly Viking themed workshops at Lancaster Maritime Museum. The perfect activity for the kids to learn whilst having fun.

Discover Lancaster’s past and present before diving into a world of wizardry
Lancaster City Museum is situated in the heart of this historic cultural city of Lancaster in an elegant Georgian building is where to discover more about Lancaster’s past from the Romans to the present day.
Trace the pedigree of Lancaster’s regiment from 1680 onwards at the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum. See the wonderful collection of portraits and landscapes on display. There are regularly changing exhibitions, events and activities for families. Currently The British Library’s Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition is held at Lancaster City Museum catch it until September 16th, 2018.
