Let’s #LightUpLancaster

Light Up Lancaster invites you to explore this northern city through the imagination of artists, using the medium of light in all its forms.

Held on the 2 and 3 November, local artists will be rubbing shoulders alongside international artists to bring their inspiration to Lancaster, creating intriguing art and memorable performances across the city.

From the most well-known places such as Lancaster Castle and the Judges’ Lodgings, to hidden gems in secret squares and historic buildings, Light Up Lancaster artworks will create a whole new experience of the city.

If you have experienced light festivals before then what sets Lancaster’s apart is the intimacy of this friendly city and the participative nature of the event. Many of these artworks need audiences to make them happen.

The theme for this year is ‘Home’ which is inviting artists to respond to the theme within their artworks. Some projects are planned to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, with thoughts of Home and Homecoming in mind.

The festival finishes each year with fantastic fireworks display launched from the grounds of Lancaster Castle.  The display, which lights up the historic landscape and skyline of the city, continues to be one of the finest displays in the north.

Make a weekend of it – during the weekend be sure to explore Lancaster and its packed daytime programme of guided walks, creative family workshops, aroma of street food and other activities across the city centre.

So wrap up warm and wander between sites of illumination, indoors and out, and experience this wonderful northern historic city at night.
