Relive the glamour of Morecambe’s Super Swimming Stadium through this fantastic collection of photographs, memories, and objects. The exhibition includes our presentation scale model of the Stadium, created by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, London, which reflects the national importance of the building.
Throughout Morecambe’s heyday, the Super Swimming Stadium was a popular place to exercise and socialise, reputably being the largest lido in Europe and welcoming 27,000 visitors a day at its peak. It hosted the first Bathing Beauties competition from 1945, later Miss Great Britain, right up until 1975 when the stadium was closed on structural grounds.
This exhibition explores the life of the stadium and the many people who remember this fantastic piece of architecture and its social history.
