NAVIGATION: times, tides, stars & charts (exhibition)

22 October 2021 to 22 March 2022
Lancaster Maritime Museum

Imagine being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (which is a mind-boggling 63million square miles) and in every direction there is water – How do you decide in which direction to sail?

Humans have navigated the oceans and waterways of the world for thousands of years.

We have progressed from piloting our voyages by shared memory, the tides, the behaviours of our ocean life, and the stars, to using satellite technology: meaning that we still look to the skies.

Do the ‘old ways’ still influence how we, as humans, travel the globe? This lively exhibition might help answer that question.
