Here is some practical advice and guidance to visiting Lancaster from the 4th July:

Visitor Enquiries –

Our Visitor Information Centre remains closed but you can still contact us by email or via our social media channels (Facebook or Twitter) with general visitor enquiries. The latest general guidance from government can be found here.

Always check if places are open before visiting –

We have comprehensive listings of the many places to stay, visit, shop and eat & drink in Lancaster on our website but please link through to contact businesses directly to see if they have actually reopened yet. Over the coming weeks, we will be aiming to update all our listings in order to present a more accurate picture of what is actually open.

Booking your stay –

Many hotels, guest houses and self catering places are taking reservations now to book your stay and they can be found on our Where to Stay pages. Some places will be open from the 4th of July but some will be take a little more time to reopen in order to make sure your stay will be safe and enjoyable.  All places will have their own restrictions in place to ensure your safety which you should check and understand prior to making a booking.

Parks and Outdoor Spaces –

Some outdoor attractions are already open, including Williamson Park, and our city has a wealth of outdoor spaces to enjoy. Here are some posts from our Blog that you may find helpful –

Indoor Attractions –

Many indoor attractions will still be preparing to open beyond the 4th July. Again please contact the attractions directly and find out about any changes to their visiting arrangements (i.e. timed tours/amended opening hours).

Some larger attractions that we know have opening dates are here –

  • Lancaster City Museum  – (There are plans to open end of July or early August)
  • Lancaster Maritime Museum – (There are plans to open end of July or early August)
  • Williamson Park – (The park is open but the Butterfly House and Cafe are still currently closed)

Shopping –

Many shops have been open for a couple of weeks now in the city centre but not all of them. Visit our Shopping pages then click through to the shop website for their latest opening plans and customer arrangements.

Food and Drink –

City restaurants are planning to reopen and we will share many of their plans on our Facebook and Twitter) Twitter  pages in the coming weeks. We have listings on Where to Eat and Drink which we will try to update in the coming weeks for a more accurate picture of what is open.  During lockdown, many food and drink outlets started offering takeaway and delivery options which you can still view here.

Car Parks and Toilets –

All City Council car parks are open and are charging again (To encourage minimal cash use, please use Ring-Go cashless parking). A useful website for toilets which are currently open can also be found here –

Events –

Most events up to September are cancelled. We have currently removed our What’s On pages from our website but later in the year we hope to add in events again that are safe to operate when the time again is right.

We look forward to see you soon safely,
