Millfest was created in 2016 by two enterprising, fun loving local lads – one a musician, the other a journalist. They’d been putting on live music shows at the village pub (The Greyhound) and social club for several years, welcoming local, national and international acts to the stage and creating a bit of a buzz in the area.
A few years ago Halton Mill, the village’s former engineering mill, became an events space after Lancaster Co-housing took over the site, turning the building into a hub for artists, small businesses and creative enterprises, while building brand new “eco-homes” and creating a new community on the banks of the river Lune nearby.
It’s a beautiful site, and it didn’t need much vision (well maybe just a little bit!) to turn it into a place to celebrate music, art, community, food and drink, using the natural riverside environment during the day, and the unique setting of the mill in the evening.
