You can also join the Festival Bowland organisers online for a series of conservation events – delivered via Zoom! Find out more about the events on the 13 August, 8 and 23 September.

Ride the Way of the Roses

This summer, why not cycle the Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route? It’s a challenging but rewarding cycling adventure which passes through Lancaster and the beautiful Lune Valley before heading through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and onto the east coast.

Head out along the Lancaster Canal.

Linking Preston to Kendal and passing right through the city, the Lancaster Canal is one of the country’s few coastal canals. Built along the natural lie of the land it offers 41 miles of lock free cruising – the longest stretch in the country. As the canal is naturally level, it also lends itself to gentle walking and cycling as well as canoeing and other outdoor activities.

Dine out in Style

Dine out in style in stunning countryside. The talented chefs at The Highwayman in Kirby Lonsdale select seasonal menus to reflect the delicious local produce, whilst The Fenwick at Claughton is known for its award-winning dishes based on fresh fish and seafood. The Bay Horse, just south of Lancaster offers locally sourced meats and delicious desserts, whilst The Fleece Inn at Dolphinholme (picture below), offers a warm welcome to delights of the Forest of Bowland.
