Mathematics at Sea

This is a page from a training log, written in 1865 by David Morris, who refers to himself as “Resident at No Where [sic]”

Morris was a crew member on board the Barque Black Water, which, according to Morris’s log sailed between Cardiff and Bombay, Rotterdam and Callao (Peru). Morris appears to be learning how to plot his course using mathematical theorems.

Don’t worry, we have transcribed it for you.
